Wellborn Fence Installation: The Riverside Owner’s Guide
Wellborn fence installation in Riverside typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 installed, depending on lineal footage, terrain, and whether we’re pulling old posts or setting new ones. We stock Wellborn-compatible post caps, rails, pickets, and gate hardware on our trucks, so a single-section repair is often done the same day we look at it. Most Riverside homeowners find us after a post heaves out of true in clay soil, a gate starts dragging, or a wind event snaps a rail clean at the lag point.
If you’re reading this because your fence is leaning, splitting, or letting the neighbor’s dog through, here’s the straight picture: Wellborn makes a solid, spec-driven fence system, and most failures we see in Riverside aren’t the material’s fault. They’re the install’s fault. Bad concrete footings, undersized posts for the wind load, hardware that wasn’t rated for outdoor exposure. That’s where we come in. We match the part, we set it right, and we put the price in writing before we dig the first hole.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn’s fence line breaks down into three product families: the Classic Series (pressure-treated pine and cedar pickets on 4×4 posts), the Premier Series (routed-edge pickets, heavier 5×5 or 6×6 corner posts, hidden fasteners), and the Aluminum Estate Series (powder-coated panels with matching gate frames). Each series uses its own rail profile and post bracket, and they do not cross-fit. A Classic Series rail will not seat into a Premier Series post bracket without shimming and drilling, which voids the structural load rating.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: Wellborn changed its rail bracket dimensions in 2019. Pre-2019 Premier Series panels use a 1-5/8-inch bracket slot; post-2019 panels use a 1-3/4-inch slot. If you’re mixing old panels with new brackets, they’ll rattle and the rail will eventually work loose. We check the bracket stamp and measure the slot before we order anything. On OEM versus aftermarket: for pickets and rails, quality-aftermarket equivalents from US suppliers run 20 – 30% cheaper and hold up identically in dry Inland Empire heat. For gate hinges and self-closing tension hardware, we recommend Wellborn OEM parts. The spring tolerances matter, and the aftermarket versions we’ve pulled off failed gates don’t last past two Riverside summers.

Signs Your Wellborn Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean at the corners or gate posts. This almost always means the footing was poured too shallow or undersized for Riverside’s expansive clay. When clay wets and dries, it heaves; a 24-inch footing moves, a 36-inch footing with gravel drainage doesn’t.
- Gate dragging or refusing to latch. The hinge screws have ovaled out the post holes, or the post itself has rotated. Tightening the screws buys you a month; resetting the post or sistering a new post buys you ten years.
- Rail ends pulling free from the post brackets. Wind loads on a solid-picket fence are real, especially on properties south of the 91 that catch the Santa Ana gusts. If the brackets backed out once, they’ll back out again.
- Pickets cracked vertically or cupping at the bottom. This is a drainage issue, not a wood-quality issue. Pickets sitting in contact with wet soil or irrigation overspray will cup. We set the bottom rail 2 inches off grade and trim irrigation paths back.
- Powder coat bubbling at the welds on Estate Series panels. Moisture got through a pinhole in the coating. Touch-up paint hides it, but the real fix is a replacement panel with the newer electrostatic coating formula Wellborn adopted in 2021.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here are the Riverside numbers, and they don’t move at the door.
- Single gate reset (hinges, latch, post plumb): $400 – $900
- Single section replacement (one bay, 6 – 8 feet, includes pickets, rails, brackets): $600 – $1,400
- Full fence replacement (150 – 200 lineal feet, includes demo and disposal): $3,500 – $9,000
- Post reset only (dig out, re-fill with gravel and concrete, re-set): $350 – $700 per post
Every quote is a written line-item number: parts, labor, disposal, permit if the project crosses property line or exceeds city height code. Riverside requires a fence permit for anything over 6 feet in a front setback or over 7 feet elsewhere; we pull it and it’s on the invoice, no mystery line items. And per The Garrison Standard, the full-year 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every fence we install. If the work fails within that window, we return and correct it at no charge. No call-back fees, no re-quote, no defensive conversation.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check a few things yourself first. Is the post actually moving, or is the bracket loose? If the post wobbles when you push on it with one hand, that’s a footing problem, not a hardware problem. You can also check whether the gate hinges are screwed into solid wood or an ovaled-out hole. Those are diagnostics, not repairs, and they’ll tell you what you’re dealing with before you call a contractor.
What we don’t recommend doing yourself: digging out and re-setting corner or gate posts in Riverside clay, especially if the fence is on a slope or within 5 feet of a retaining wall. The hole needs to go 36 inches deep, the post needs gravel at the base, and the concrete needs to cure 48 hours before the rail takes any load. We see mis-set posts every month, and the fix costs double what the original job would have. If you want a straight number, call us at (424) 567-8472. Curtis Lane and the crew will measure, give you the written price, and tell you exactly what’s going back in the ground.
FAQs

A properly installed Wellborn fence should last 20 – 25 years on the wood pickets and 30+ on the aluminum Estate Series in Riverside’s dry climate. The two things that cut that short are poor drainage at the base of the posts and sprinkler overspray on the pickets. Both are install fixes, not material fixes. Call (424) 567-8472 if you want us to assess whether your fence is aging normally or failing early.
Yes, if the posts are still sound and the rails aren’t structurally compromised, we can replace individual pickets, brackets, and gate hardware without touching the rest of the fence. We’ll tell you plainly when a repair is throwing money at a footing problem. Estimates are free, and the repair falls under the same 365-Day Done Right Promise as a full install.
A single-section repair usually takes half a day. A full 150 – 200 foot fence replacement typically takes 3 – 5 working days, including demo, disposal, and concrete cure time. Weather is rarely a factor in Riverside, but we sequence the work so the gate goes back last and the yard is secure every night. Call (424) 567-8472 and we’ll give you a schedule with your written quote.
We stock Wellborn-compatible post caps, rail brackets, pickets, gate hinges, and latch hardware on our trucks, covering all three Wellborn series. That includes the post-2019 bracket dimensions. If we don’t have the exact part in the truck, we source it from our Riverside supplier within one business day. We also stock parts for KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria surfaces, and Silestone countertops for kitchen work.
